You will need to take a photo of the primary person being interviewed (interviewee) along with images of extended family who support the process.
The interviewee will need to approve the interview, the recording of their story, and the taking of the photographs by signing the authorization form before the interview or photos are taken.
The photos can be used for an audit and include GPS information about where the photo was taken.
In this section, you’ll learn how to:
As you navigate this course click the forward button at the bottom right of the screen to continue.
Prior to interviewing anyone, you need to make sure the camera on the device is working properly. You need to check the following items:
All photos must provide information regarding the exact location of the interview. The GPS will provide this location data for you. It will also be used in audit reviews.
Select each tab to learn more about the steps to set up your GPS:
Set your phone to the Home Screen page.
On the top of the Home Screen, click downwards to show a row of options.
If Location is off, click on the Location tab to switch it on.
After taking a picture, identify the More icon in the upper right corner.
Click Details.
Location will appear in the form of an area name or longitude and latitude coordinates.
When you take a photo of the interviewee, position the frame so the person is in the center of the photograph. Take a picture of their face; which is a photo taken from the shoulders up.
Some guidelines for taking appropriate photos include:
Make sure that those photographed have shirts on, or that their top is covered.
Do not take photos of dead people.
Do not take photos of mothers nursing babies.
Do not take photos of naked children or naked people.
Take time with the person being interviewed to ensure that they understand this authorization form and what FamilySearch will do with this data.
When you take a photo of the people contributing to the interview, the interviewee should be included in the photograph, so that the same person exists in both photos.
Including background features such as a building or nature is good. We recommend that you include more than two family members in the extended family group photo, if possible.
The person conducting the interview (interviewer) should not be included in any images.
When you take photos, it is important that you get an image of the environment. Take a photo of the location or environment in which the interview took place. This could be a picture of the home, a picture of the village, or a picture of the natural, surrounding environment.
